Our Story

 Tameka Bartney, born in Los Angeles, California in 1976, is the founder and Executive Director of Kings Journey Inc., a nonprofit organization based in Compton, CA. She established the organization in honor of her son, King Donovan Kirkwood, who was born with significant medical challenges.Tameka's journey to community service and nonprofit leadership was shaped by diverse experiences. After graduating from Westchester High School, she initially pursued a career in nursing, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 2001. However, due to medical setbacks, she transitioned to business studies, earning a degree in Business Management with a focus on Accounting from the University of Phoenix in 2014.With extensive experience in accounting and financial management, Tameka brings a unique blend of skills to her role at Kings Journey Inc. She oversees agency-based housing referrals, resource services, and financial literacy programs, leveraging her business acumen to effectively manage the organization's operations.

Tameka's commitment to community empowerment is evident in her volunteer work and her efforts to provide essential resources such as employment assistance and tutoring. Her leadership and organizational skills have been crucial in advancing Kings Journey's mission of supporting those in need, particularly individuals and families impacted by the War on Drugs in the Compton area.

Throughout her career, Tameka has received numerous awards and certificates recognizing her dedication to community service. Her personal experiences and professional background have shaped her into a compassionate leader who understands the challenges faced by the community she serves.As Executive Director of Kings Journey Inc., Tameka Bartney continues to work tirelessly to create positive change in Compton, focusing on providing comprehensive resources, services, and housing to individuals and families facing various challenges. 

 Marvis R. Dolberry was born on January 15, 1955, in Los Angeles, CA. Adopted by Mrs. Dessie L. Edwards, Marvis grew up in the vibrant community of Watts. She graduated from George Washington High School in 1972 and initially pursued a career in data processing, earning several certificates and awards. Marvis has a rich background in law firm administration and currently works in family daycare, assisting children with various needs. As she approaches her second year with Kings Journey, Marvis is dedicated to strengthening community ties and supporting those less fortunate. Her passion for volunteering and community service has been instrumental in spreading awareness about Kings Journey's mission. 

 Born in Los Angeles in 1972, Jamaul Nickerson has a long-standing entrepreneurial and technological background. His journey began with a business venture in cellular communications, which he successfully transformed into a community cornerstone. Jamaul expanded his expertise to include networking, technology, media, and entertainment, working as a network engineer and business owner. At Kings Journey, Jamaul leverages his technical skills and entrepreneurial spirit to drive innovation and connectivity, ensuring the organization remains at the forefront of technological advancement.
